🦗Do you wear a mask too..?
There is a light, I promise
Hi Friend,
I sent an email out yesterday by accident because im a bot.
So you get three this week. (Lucky you)
You can’t have a bad day… until you do.
Yesterday was a bad day for somebody I love dearly.
His friend had taken his own life and he was a mess.
Nobody saw it coming.
His friend was the captain of a hockey team, worked full time, and had loving friends.
They saw him as “okay”
Yet he didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
It truly shows you never know what is going on in someone’s life.
I share this with you because we all wear a mask. (Whether we are aware of it or not)
We wear a mask to protect ourselves, be it an emotional one or a personality.
We wear them because we don’t want to be seen as
Weak.
Vulnerable.
Ourselves.
I used to wear an emotional one, I was known as “Mr Positive” no matter the situation I was always the positive one.
Bad shift at work = I would try my best to make it better.
Friend had a bad day = Lets grab a beer/ coffee and chat.
shit night sleep = ill motivate you.
The trouble was, I didn’t have a good shift, a good day, or a good night sleep either.
I knew what they were feeling and I thought if I helped them take it away, then well mine might go away too.
SPOILER ALERT
It DIDNT.
I was left more exhausted, drained and unhappy than before.
You see I wore this mask because it was easier than facing all the issues I had.
I’ll help you solve yours so I don’t have to solve mine.
I didn’t want to be seen as weak, vulnerable, or myself.
Which at the time was depressed and battling a lot of internal demons.
Nobody was aware of what I was battling and I wanted it that way.
The trouble is, we don’t and shouldn’t feel we have to bear our burdens alone.
So why do we?
We have,
Therapists
Coaches
Friends & Family
The big man himself. (God)
That is why I write these emails, to make you aware of little steps you can use to shift your negative thoughts into positive ones, and hopefully make a difference.
Things like
Journalling.
Meditation.
Mindset courses.
Gratitude.
Therapy.
Praying.
Podcasts.
I missed social media off the list because I truly believe it is so easy to start comparing our journey to someone else, and it doesn’t work for everybody.
Sometimes someone yelling “You’ll be okay” doesn’t quite have the positive effect they want it to have.
So here is to not being okay, but taking small steps in your own time to better yourself and better your thoughts.
Changing them from negative ones to positive ones.
It will be hard. It will be scary as fuck. But you are stronger than you can imagine, and the world is sure as fuck a better place with you in it.
Forward this to someone you think might be struggling, or someone who is too happy.
Here is to you, my friend. You truly are one of a kind.
God loves you.
The universe loves you.
Your friends care more than you think.
Your family loves you more than you know.
I now am Mr. Positive and I don’t say that from a place of ego, I say it from a place of love.
I put in the work. (And it was scary as fuck)
Now I want to help you do the same.
Your friend,
Robbo “The P.V.C Chief” Blades
P.s Your daily actionable step.
Take five minutes to call someone and tell them you love them.
Grab a loved one and just squeeze them.
Hang on to how that makes you feel, because it will make them feel just as much love as you do.
